Your worth may not be in question
for it is simply how you define worth that has everything to do with self...
How many times have you found yourself on a mental edge state of mind like questioning the logic of what you’ve done or could possibly be doing right now? Perhaps you’ve thought to yourself, is this even worth my time? Many of us hardly find the value of pennies anymore, some may throw them away or even leave them on the floor—for a “penny for your thoughts” isn’t enough—there’s no value there. Yet, a penny is still a form of currency. You just need to scrounge up quite a few to make it make cents…such as life. But what I am getting at here? I am hopeful that you’ll consider this—sometimes it isn’t what we’ve done/doing that’s weightless, it’s the value that we put into it. When our values are not aligned with our actions then at some point, it’s bound to falter because there’s no foundation there.
I was teaching a workshop for Eugene Lang New School for Liberal Arts, incoming freshman, two weeks ago and I presented an activity where they wrote an email to themselves and sent it in the future, you know the small drop down arrow next to the send button in gmail? This exercise was an opportunity to remind themselves of their goals and values, to be sent at a time when perhaps they need it most (without them even knowing at that time). TODAY, I’d encourage you to do the same.
Consider your values and if you don’t have any concrete, these are 3 things I stand on—core values. Create them. Draft an email and send it to your future self.
Because all of which we do here on Earth matters—literally everything has a ripple effect and we are so much more than the lives we live and the stories we tell ourselves. Whether you accept it or not, you have a role and you are playing it. So why not do it with more intention. Reminding yourself of WHO you are. You are a reflection of your beliefs.
I just hope to remind you of this today because I personally believe in you.
Thank you for being you truly and sincerely.
xoxo,
